A Primer on Wireless Printing

by Reliable Print Solutions

Mobile printing represents one of the newest opportunities for the printing industry to take advantage of today. While Apple and Google offer proprietary printing for their respective iOS and Android devices, many businesses are unaware that the capability to print wirelessly from a smart phone or a tablet even exists. Here’s a primer on two built-in wireless printing features for mobile devices:

  • Apple AirPrint – This function is already built into every iPhone, iPad, and even every iPod Touch running iOS 4.2 or higher. Compatible with a number of printers from HP, Lexmark, Epson, Canon, and Brother, all you need to do is select print while connected to the same wireless network as the printer and you’ll be able to see a list of compatible printers.
  • Google Cloud Print – Available for all Android devices (including phones and tablets), Google Cloud Print allows for easy device management under one Google account. Each printer requires a master account which can then authorize others to use the printer. Currently, only HP, Kodak, and Epson manufacture Cloud Ready printers, making this the more limited option.

These two services make it simple to print e-mails, photos, web pages, and documents right from your phone or other mobile device. Apple AirPrint and Google Print work with a number of first-party apps, with continued support arriving every day. Consider HP and Epson printers for your office, as their printers are compatible with both services.
